How It Works

This video covers both the 1" and 20mm Ball Adapters, but it's better to let Max show ya!

The Ball Adapter is a Peak Design SlimLink™ phone mount with either a 1" or 20mm ball on the back of it. That ball is designed to connect to a wide range of modular 3rd party phone mounts that use the same system. To use either size Ball Adapter, you first need to get a 3rd party mount. Then you simply pop the Ball Adapter on the end of the mount, and you can enjoy our ultra-strong, ultra-fast, easy-to-use phone mounting system. Also, note that all of our Ball Adapters have a built-in vibration protection mechanism to keep your phone safe from damage caused by motorcycle (or other vehicle) engines.

Compatibility with 3rd Party Mounts

All of our Ball Adapters are designed to work with any 3rd party phone mount that uses 1" or 20mm ball-and-socket joints to assemble. These types of mounts are made by a wide variety of brands and for a wide range of different mounting applications. While there are many brands out there, the most well-known and widely distributed brand is RAM Mounts. Most of RAM's phone mounts use an X-shaped claw to grab your phone. Our 1" Ball Adapter replaces that claw, giving you super-quick 1-handed attachment and detachment that can be done without looking. Our 1" Ball Adapter works with RAM's B-size hardware.

It's also worth noting that we've teamed up with the folks over at Offroam to create vehicle-specific phone mounts that are rugged, beautiful, and charge your phone instantly. Offroam phone mounts are specifically designed to fit your make, model, and year of the vehicle. Thanks to easy installation ( seriously, no drilling or gluing is required!) and the integrated protective rubber liners mean, you can always remove your mount without leaving a trace. 

For Motorcycle Use

The most common use for our 1" Ball Adapter is for mounting to a motorcycle. Peak Design makes two other motorcycle mounts: a Bar Mount and a Stem Mount. It's worth checking these out, as they might provide a lower-profile, aesthetically pleasing phone mounting experience. But there are some cases where you might prefer the 1" Ball Adapter. Perhaps you have an uncommon handlebar diameter (see the SPECS tab on the Bar Mount page for what we support). Or, perhaps you've already invested in a 3rd party ball-and-socket mounting system, but you'd like to upgrade your phone attachment experience.

For Use in a Car, Truck, Off-Roader, or Overlanding Vehicle

Peak Design makes two options of Car Mounts for your phone. The Adhesive Car Mount attaches with an adhesive base to your dashboard or console, and it comes in a charging and non-charging version. Our new Vent Mount also comes in a charging and non-charging version. Both are plenty strong enough for the bumpiest of roads (we've gone joyriding through off-road courses numerous times with it...what can we say, we're dedicated to product testing). But there are plenty of situations where a Ball Adapter might be the best phone mounting solution for your vehicle.

Some vehicles simply don't have a good spot to attach our adhesive phone mounts. If this is the case, you can instead use our Ball Adapters along with a 3rd party mounting base (suction cup, bendy arm, vent, cupholder, etc). Or, perhaps you really don't want to stick something directly to your dash—maybe it's a company car, or you're leasing, or whatever—in that case, we suggest the Vent Mount, but using our Ball Adapter with a suction cup base works great too. Lastly, perhaps you've already invested in a 3rd party mounting system that uses a ball-and-socket joint. You can use our Ball Adapter to instantly upgrade your phone connection experience so that it's 1-handed, super-secure, and can be done without even looking.
